Report-Promoting the Right to Information and Internet Freedom

This report highlights the achievements, challenges, and lessons learned from the project “Promoting the Right to Information and Internet Freedom,” implemented by the Advocacy and Policy Institute (API) from February to September 2024. The project aimed to strengthen civil society and youth capacity to monitor internet censorship, advocate for digital rights, and promote freedom of expression in Cambodia. Key activities included developing and delivering training on internet freedom, digital rights, and the use of OONI Probe tools for internet censorship monitoring. Over 85 participants (54 females) from civil society organizations and youth networks were trained, resulting in more than 2.4 million OONI Probe tests and the identification of 65 blocked websites, primarily in news and human rights categories. The project also facilitated policy dialogues and collaboration among stakeholders to advocate for greater internet freedom and transparency. The report underscores the importance of evidence-based advocacy, digital literacy, and multi-stakeholder engagement in defending fundamental rights and safeguarding democracy in Cambodia.
