This report highlights the achievements, challenges, and lessons learned from the Women and Youth Empowerment in Leadership (WYEL) project, implemented by the Advocacy and Policy Institute (API) from July 2022 to December 2024. The project aimed to strengthen the leadership, advocacy, and civic engagement skills of women and youth in Cambodia, with a special focus on promoting the right to information and good governance. Key activities included dialogue meetings with government and stakeholders to push for the Access to Information (A2I) law, national and provincial workshops, youth debate competitions, and public awareness campaigns. The project successfully increased youth and women’s participation in public debates, enhanced understanding of fundamental freedoms, and built a network of young influencers advocating for transparency and accountability. The report features inspiring case studies, such as Channy—a young woman who became a vocal advocate for access to information and human rights. WYEL’s experience demonstrates the importance of inclusive participation, capacity building, and sustained advocacy for empowering the next generation of leaders in Cambodia.
