Survey on Women in Leadership Roles

On 19 March 2021, Mr. Socheat Lam, the Director of API, was one of the speakers at the launch of a survey report on the challenges faced by women and youth in leadership roles in Cambodia. The report was released by Transparency International (TI), and it emphasised the fact that major problems are still persistent when Cambodian women attempt to make a prominent career, one of the main obstacles being an early education still based on traditional gender roles. Mr. Lam recommended the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to strengthen the relations between school youth and local governance, encouraging students to participate in public decision making, planning and budgeting processes in their communes and districts. By building capacities from a very early age, one can hope to achieve systematic and sustainable public participation, increasing the involvement of girls and women in public affairs and enhancing the accountability of public institutions.
