Dissemination Campaign on Commune Budgeting

In mid-June, youth representatives and commune councillors conducted a public awareness campaign on commune budgeting the five target communes (Thma Andeoek, Thma Kre, Kantuot, Koh Chraeng and Sambok) of the Chet Borey district (province of Kratie). Using door-to-door dissemination and our Commune Budget Booklet, young volunteers explained the basics of local planning and budgeting to residents. This initiative is part of our UNICEF-funded project dedicated to strengthening youth participation in social affairs. In the framework of a meeting between citizens and their commune and district councillors, local community issues were discussed. Among the topics brought up were the rehabilitation of the Ou Kantuot dam, encroachment issues regarding community land and forest, requests to dig canals, repair old bridges, build new ones, and provide funds for security patrolling, arguments about the boundaries of the plots belonging to temples, as well as issues of deforestation and restricting heavy traffic on certain roads.
