Foundation Workshop for Local Councillors
Our initiative of building capacity for local councillors continued on July 20th and 21st in Banteay Meanchey. Our project team organised a foundation training workshop attended by two groups of around 50 local councillors from this province. The event focused on analysing the results of the institutional capacity assessments we undertook together, as well as on the further capacity development measures needed. Programme manager Barmey Phan and our trainer team lead by Dr. Vothana Prum showed the officials how to access the online learning hub, and we also discussed the roles and responsibilities of the leaders and committees of the Provincial Association of Local Councillors. Following the training, we concentrated on assessing the needs of the most vulnerable citizens living in several districts of Banteay Meanchey. Together with the local officials representing these districts, as well as with our implementing partners, we interviewed 250 persons, including people with disabilities, women and low income citizens, in order to make sure their issues are brought to the attention of the authorities and solutions are found in a participatory and inclusive environment. The same strategy will be applied in all six provinces where our project is being implemented.
