Young Cambodians Need More Tech Education

In a statement published on its Facebook page and quoted by the Phnom Penh Post, the Department of Information Technology emphasised the need to involve government agencies, the private sector and all Cambodians in training programmes aimed at achieving a digital society. The officials said youth should increase their understanding of technology and improve their skills to keep up with developments in the country as well as in the region. It advised Cambodian students to work hard to improve their knowledge of technology. “Cambodian youths should continue to study hard to strengthen their knowledge of foreign languages and to continue to participate in community development by sharing knowledge and experience”, the Department wrote.

In this context, our director Socheat Lam told the Phnom Penh Post that today’s technology was very important in solving future problems, especially national development. He stressed that neither young Cambodians, nor the government had made full use of the potential offered by contemporary tech yet. “In this era, marked by the worldwide crisis of Covid-19, the use of e-government technology should be official and become the mainstream of people’s education”, Mr. Lam said, emphasising the need for training and investment in human resources. “This is especially true of Cambodia, which has a very young population, two thirds of which is under 30. This is basically the Kingdom’s greatest potential.”
