More Humanitarian Aid for Low-Income Families
On May 31, 2021, API distributed 50 kg of rice to each of 53 poorest families in Sangkat Stung Meanchey 2 (Meanchey district of Phnom Penh). This action came after 246 further families had received the same donation on 19-20 May 2021, and was followed by a similar action on June 4, in which elderly citizens, people with disabilities and people with low incomes belonging to around 200 families and living in Sangkat Teuk Thla, Kok Khleang and Khmuonh benefited from the same initiative. API also received additional emergency assistance from the Government of Denmark through the DanChurch Aid Organization (DCA) to assist the Royal Government and the people in carrying out humanitarian work. In collaboration with DCA, we recently conducted telephone interviews to find out the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the community. The results of the survey show that most poor families and vulnerable groups have lost their income and have been experiencing severe shortages in their daily lives as the lockdown measures have been implemented in Phnom Penh. We are pleased that the Capital, khan and sangkat administrations, as well as various philanthropists have responded immediately and provided food and financial support to the citizens.
